Students collect sagebrush seeds in Nevada

More than a million acres burned in Nevada this summer, leaving the burned out areas more subject to erosion, and wildlife vulnerable with nothing to eat. Middle school students in Virginia City are giving back to their state, though, by collecting sagebrush seeds. That’s a good lesson in conservation and ecology for those students.

Border fence may threaten environment

As the government prepares to build a fence at the Mexican border to stem illegal immigration, environmentalists are getting a little concerned. In particular, they are worried about the San Pedro River in Arizona. The fence is only 400 yards from the river right now. The species at risk are mountain lions, jaguars, black bears, and white-tailed deer.
