Green Christmas Tree farm

Posted in Eco by Eco on the November 13th, 2007

The Candy Cane Christmas Tree Farm in Oxford, Michigan has been honored for its environmentally-friendly practices. The tree farm was awarded a Proactive Leader in Ecology Management Award. The steps they have taken to make their tree farm more green include planting all the trees with an electric auger, rather than a gas-powered tractor; a drip-irrigation method; selling trees in pots so they can be replanted after the holidays; and intermingling of tree species to prevent disease. Good for them.

Monkey population in Kenya is worrying

Posted in Eco by Eco on the November 1st, 2007

The De Brazza’s monkeys, a white-bearded monkey species, have never before lived in the Great Rift Valley, because weather conditions there have neve been well-suited for them. Not anymore, though. A population of the monkeys has been spotted in the valley, leading ecologists to say this is a sign of global climate change. Africa is the continent least prepared to cope with climate changes caused by global warming.
